What happens if you suffer from loneliness for just 1 day?

In October 2022, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared loneliness a global public health risk. The question is, how harmful is loneliness to people?

Recent research by the National Institutes of Health in the United States has revealed shocking information. The harmful effects of just 1 day of loneliness on the brain are equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day! In addition, it is one of the main reasons for the reduction in the average life expectancy of the elderly. Due to an antisocial lifestyle,

the risk of heart disease increases by 29 per cent, and the risk of stroke increases by 32 per cent. Loneliness increases the risk of dementia by 50 per cent.

This study also says that those who isolate themselves from family and society have a much higher rate of suffering from mental problems such as anxiety, depression, hallucinations, and panic attacks.

Since the Corona pandemic, the importance of research on the impact of loneliness on people's physical and mental health has increased. And this negative impact is the same for people in any part of the world. The rate of loneliness in North America is the highest,

at 15 per cent. Most of them are over sixty years old. In Africa, this rate is 12.7 per cent. Meanwhile, according to the survey, European people suffer the least from loneliness. In their case, this rate is 5.3 per cent.

Young people who suffer from loneliness in college have a much higher dropout rate. They also rarely find success in their careers. The loneliness of young people hurts the country's overall economy.

However, experts also say that being alone and suffering from loneliness are two different things. Being alone is not a problem, but suffering from loneliness is risky. If you enjoy your time alone, spend it on creative activities, spend time with books, nature, pets,

live a healthy life, take a break from the normal rhythm of life to look back or 'reflect', be in the process of becoming wise and wise, and enjoy your true freedom, then it is actually good for your physical and mental health.
